Conventional histomorphometry is done by utilizing computer-assisted microscopy analysis and software. The relative populations of bone forming and resorbing cells can be estimated as well as the relative amounts of resorption surfaces on bone. If in vivo labeling with fluorescent markers has been applied, further information of the bone formation kinetics can be obtained.
